The day I met Tiger and Grey

Early May I found out about the existence of an organisation that aims to protect the ancient Egyptian Mau. I happen to come across when I was searching for a breeder of Egyptian Mau cats here in Holland.

This organisation seem to be a perfect solution for my wish to own an Egyptian Mau and do something good for the millions of cats that are abandoned worldwide. The first cat I came across on the adoptionlist was a cat named Mau. It looked for a forever home in Europe, and this actualy made me interested, as this organisation seemed to ship cats worldwide. I scrolled down the list of about 20 cats, some very young, some old, some disabled, some semi feral, others friendly and sociable. But there was one cat catching my attention, and that was little tiger. On the picture a kitten, but it was by now almost one year old. Her eyes, her looks, it kept me attracted for a long time. But after a few days looking for more cats, I found another list with offside Egyptian Mau. I choose for two of those, one cat named Tawny, a Mau looking golden cat and Cassy a breathchoking silver Shirazi (which is a cross between an Egyptian Mau and a Persian x Mau, resulting in a long haired Mau with a normal shaped head and nose). She had bronze eyes matching so stunning with her silver hair. After a few days I heard that both Tawny and Cassy had already been replaced. It is a pitty.

At this point I decided to request for Tiger and another cat named Magdi. But for some reason, Grey appeared on the list. And, after a week of corresponding and filling out a huge questionaire, the news arrived that both Tiger and Grey had been adopted to me!

I had to pay the money for their bloodtests and laboratory costs, so that they could start their quarantaine as soon as possible. That moment started on May 16th, as EMRO was so kind to start early before they received the money, because Grey had still a valid vaccination, but it would run out on May 17th. It was needed to have the process started or else it would take longer or costed me more money.

I have not a single day regreted Grey to join my little 'family'. He was on my wishlist, but I did not plan him on second choice. But looking at his picture and hearing people who already met Grey or even considered to adopt him, say he is a wonderfull easy going and lovable cat. And I am sure it is meant to be that he comes live with me as well. Magdi who I would love to adopt later, is also adopted now to go to the US. I am happy for him, and maybe it is just exact how it should have to be. His place was meant to be in the US and sure he will be loved just as equally as I would love Tiger and Grey.

So, they are now in quarantaine. At the moment I write this, it is week 9 out of 13, which means it is still 3 1/2 more weeks to go until they can leave Egypt. I am very very curious to them, and even more now the moment has come to really get ready and excited. Their things arrive now, I am arranging their travel, and just this week I decided to do my best to pick them up myself. Isn't that wonderfull? But I am very happy EMRO arranges their journey because it is not easy doing this from Holland. I know how and where to arrange flights from Holland to Egypt, but importing it is complicated. But I am sure within a week I know the plans. I am excited, to go to Cairo even if it may only be for a few hours... all for the kitties I found on my way of life.
